The Graph

Each circle is a philosopher. Octagons are subject branches. Diamonds are Big Questions. Drag nodes, zoom with scroll/pinch, pan the background.

4 Modes

By Subject — philosophers cluster around their branches (octagons orbit slowly).

By Philosopher — only philosopher-to-philosopher connections shown.

Timeline — arranged chronologically left to right.

Big Questions — 10 perennial questions orbit as purple diamonds.

Click Everything

Philosophers — open a detail panel with position, texts, concepts, deep analysis, connections.

Texts — key passages, chapter outline, and "Read Full Text" link to free online version.

Concepts — see all philosophers who share that concept.

Connections — click the lines between philosophers to see how they relate.

Big Questions — see how each philosopher answers the question.

Connection Colors

Green = Teacher-Student   Gray = Influence   Red dashed = Opposition   Orange = Dialogue   Blue dotted = Contemporaries

Filter

Use the button to show/hide entire branches. Useful for focusing on specific traditions (e.g., show only Jewish + Islamic philosophy).

Search

Search by name, concept, text title, or position. Matching philosophers and their connections light up.
